Maya says BSP workers gave her money
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati claimed that the money had been given to her by BSP workers from across the country.

New Delhi: Two days after declaring assets to the tune of Rs 52 crore and amidst questions being raised about that, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday claimed that the money had been given to her by BSP workers from across the country.

"The BSP workers, who earlier used to send the money to the party, started sending it to me thinking that I had no money. The workers asked me to utilise the money in any way I wanted - for constructing a bungalow in Delhi or in investment," PTI quoted Mayawati as saying.

Mayawati said that she was grateful to the previous BJP-led regime at the Centre for the CBI raids at her residences saying because they failed to ‘yield’ anything the BSP workers began sending gifts in the form of cash as they thought "I had nothing".

In an affidavit on Monday Mayawati had declared that she has some prime pieces of property in Delhi both residential and commercial.

According to the affidavit, Mayawati declared she owns movable and immovable assets worth about Rs 52 crore.

Her assets also include diamonds and jewellery worth Rs 51 lakh, but no any vehicle or agricultural land.

Agency reports say the BSP supremo has Rs 52.27 lakh in cash while Rs 12.88 crore is deposited in banks, financial institutions and non-banking financial companies.

These were the details of her movable and immovable assets. She also declared Rs 50,87,529 in the form of gold, diamonds and silver. The breakup says she has 1034.260 gms of gold, 76.040 gms of diamond and 18,500 kgs of silver. She also declared mural worth Rs 15 lakh.

She filed her nomination papers to the legislative council election on Monday.

"I don't hide anything. Everything is mentioned in the income tax returns and the tax is paid," Mayawati said.

She also dismissed reports that she had filed any appeal in the settlement commission nor did she intend to do so.

Mayawati said that she had shunned her family and now "sarvasamaj" (all communities) is my family'.

However, she blamed the media of airing "baseless and motivated" news about her assets.
