New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Mukul Roy is all set to take over as the new Railway Minister. He will be sworn in on Tuesday morning at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Roy, who is also the MoS for Shipping, will reply to the debate over the Rail Budget in Parliament, which is slated later this week. TMC Chief and West bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had insisted that the new Railway Minister should reply to the Rail Budget.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accepted Roy as the new Railway Minister after a 20-minute meeting with Mamata in Delhi. The TMC has been adamant in demanding a cut in passenger fares announced by former Dinesh Trivedi last week.

Trivedi had to resign after pressure from his party.

Mukul Roy, the Railway Minister in waiting, is a general secretary of the Trinamnool Congress. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2006. He's minister of state in the Ministry of Shipping. He's also been a non-executive director as a social worker for the United Bank of India.
