Outgoing govt refers CBI request to prosecute Mayawati in corruption case to Governor T V Rajeshwar.

New Delhi: The outgoing SP government has referred the Central Bureau of Investigation’s request to prosecute BSP chief Mayawati in a corruption case to Governor T V Rajeshwar.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who resigned on Friday, referred the request on May 9. The CBI asked for the state government’s permission in the Rs 175-crore Taj Corridor scandal on March 11 and later sent reminders to the state Chief Secretary.

The CBI was acting in compliance with the order of the designated court in Lucknow which had asked the agency to seek prosecution sanction against Mayawati.

The court has given time till May 15 to the CBI for filing the sanction for prosecution before it could take a decision on whether to take cognizance of the investigation report submitted by it on February 15.

On the Supreme Court directions, the CBI had submitted all the material and documents, including the investigation report in the case.

The sources said permission has also been sought for prosecution of former environment minister Nassemuddin Siddqi, former state environment Secretary R K Sharma, under secretary Rajendra Prasad and Additional General Manager of NBCC Mahendra Sharma.
