No work, no pay for MPs: Omar on House logjam
The political storm over FDI in retail gathered momentum paralysing proceedings in Parliament for the second day.

Jammu: Anguished over disruptions in Parliament on the issue of FDI in retail, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the time has come for "no work, no pay" for MPs if minimum hours of business were not transacted.

Supporting the Centre's decision of allowing FDI in retail sector, Omar said, "Indian industry did not die when quantitative restrictions on imports were rolled back under WTO commitments during NDA rule."

Writing on micro-blogging site Twitter, he said, "Time for No work No Pay. If a minimum number of hours of business isn't transacted that day, no allowances should be paid out to parliamentarian."

The political storm over FDI in retail gathered momentum on Monday paralysing proceedings in Parliament for the second consecutive day.

Both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha could not transact any business and witnessed uproar over the FDI issue, leading to their adjournment till Tuesday.

"I remember the same 'Indian Business will Die' when we rolled Quantitative Restrictions on Imports back under WTO commitments during NDA", he said.

"I was MoS Commerce in NDA govt and the same noises were echoed. Indian industry didn't die, it learnt to swim better and stronger."

He questioned the behaviour of NDA and said "will the NDA ever run out of reasons to justify disrupting Parliament?"
