Lucknow: Pilibhit police may file a chargesheet against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Varun Gandhi on Monday for his alleged hate speeches during poll campaigns in March.
“As the government has granted prosecution sanction, police may file a chargesheet against Varun under section 153(A)(promoting enmity on religious grounds), 125 of Representation of the People Act and other relevant sections of the IPC," official sources said in Lucknow.
The state government granted prosecution sanction to the Pilibhit police to file a chargesheet against Varun under section 153(A) and issued an order on July 3.
“The government has given a go ahead to the District Magistrate Pilibhit to file chargesheet against Varun, accused of delivering inflammatory speeches during Lok Sabha polls,” home secretary Mahesh Gupta told reporters.
The Pilibhit administration, after receiving report from Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh that the CDs of Varun's inflammatory speeches were not tampered, had sought permission from the government to file chargesheet against the BJP MP in June.
Cases were registered against Varun on March 17 at Barkheda police station on direction of EC for allegedly delivering inflammatory speeches there on March 8.
Another FIR was registered against Varun on March 19 for allegedly delivering another hate speech in Desh Nagar locality of Pilibhit town on March 7.
The cases were lodged under the provision of IPC including section 153 (inciting communal feelings), Representation of People's act and violation of model code of conduct.
