Ghaziabad: Seeking to puncture Rahul Gandhi's claim that Central assistance was being misused by the Uttar Pradesh government, Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday hit back at the Congress leader saying various projects were lying incomplete due to absence of the funds.
Various projects in UP were lying incomplete due to lack of Central funds, while the young leader (Rahul) was merely "harping" about lack of development in the state, Mayawati said.
"Congress-led UPA government was never serious about the development of the state," the BSP leader said while addressing a public gathering in Ramlila ground in Ghaziabad.
She alleged that Rahul, who was now a days harping about the word "development", does not understand even its meaning. Staying one or two nights in the huts of Dalits is not enough to understand the need for development, where he had meals from out side, said the BSP supremo.
Targeting Congress on the issue of separate quota for minorities, Mayawati said, "I challenge Congress to make a separate reservation for Muslims instead of cutting out shares from others." "Congress talks about eradicating corruption, while they themselves are the most corrupt," the Chief Minister alleged.
Hitting at the main opposition party in the state, she alleged that if Samajwadi Party returns to power the state would be in the hands of "goons and criminals" who would loot you. Justifying the parks and statues in Noida and Lucknow she said that Congress, BJP and SP have no business criticising them.
The parks are decorated with the statues of Dalits and religious leaders who deserve respect of the whole country, while these parties criticise these leaders because they are Dalits, she said.
"These parties talk for Dalits but criticise their leaders," she said. If BSP is voted to power per capita income of UP will become double as we will generate more employment opportunities, she claimed.
She also said that people have lost faith in BJP due to its "communal image" and politics of "mandir and masjid". I kicked out all the corrupt leaders and even ministers from my party, and no corrupt person was fielded in election his time, said the BSP chief.
Rahul had earlier alleged that money meant for UP was siphoned off by BSP ministers. He had also accused a senior BSP minister of misusing funds meant for Bundelkhand farmers.
"Funds were sent for farmers of Bundelkhand region under a special package but were misused by PWD minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui for buying tractors for his relatives," Rahul had said in Ramabai Nagar in December last year.
