Rahul Gandhi says prospects for Congress in Orissa looks good.

New Delhi: The youngest member of the Gandhi family is on a ‘Discover India’ tour now, hoping to revitalize the Congress organisation. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi spoke in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The AICC general Secretary dismissed the idea of early general elections.

Rahul Gandhi said, “As far as I know there will be no early general elections and hence there is no substance to the all the talk of early elections.”

Asked about the possibility of the UPA Government falling on the Indo-US nuclear deal, Gandhi said talks are on with the allies.

"The Prime Minister has already stated that the government is talking to various allies on the issue," PTI quoted him as saying.

On the possibility of Congress tying up with Mayawati-led BSP for the next general election, he said, "I am not in a position to say anything on this. The Congress President will be able to answer the query."

Talking about the prospects of Congress in the elections he said he was not a fortune-teller that he should make any prediction.

But he added that the prospects for Congress in Orissa looks good.

Earlier, joining his mother Sonia Gandhi in seeking to cash in on farm loan waiver, Rahul Gandhi said that farmers need not thank the government, which instead should thank them for their hard work to feed the country.

"The farmers do not need to thank the government for the waiver package. Instead, the government should thank farmers as they work hard to feed the country, Rahul Gandhi said.

Gandhi, who is on a four-day tour of the state, said there was a time when the country was considered poor and there were no funds for development.
