New Delhi: Just a day before the Lok Sabha election result are to be declared, Bharatiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh on Thursday offered the Lok Sabha Speaker's post to veteran leader LK Advani, said sources.

Sources added that Advani has not rejected the offer but wanted the decision to be taken only on the weekend after the counting gets over and results are declared.

Sources also said that Advani is keen to be NDA chairman, a post which BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi wants to keep for himself.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a jibe at the turn of events in the BJP. He tweeted, "I've heard of bruised egos during government formation but it must be a new record to have to deal with them even before counting has started."

On Wednesday, the party held consultations on the ministries to be allotted to its leaders. Sources said that the party is considering Arun Jaitley for the Finance Ministry. Sources also added that Sushma Swaraj was being considered for the Defence Ministry or the Ministry of External Affairs.

Former Army Chief General VK Singh was likely to be given a Minister of State post in the Defence Ministry.

BJP President Rajnath Singh was eyeing the Home Ministry while Nitin Gadkari was likely to be given the Railways Ministry or the Infrastructure Ministry, said sources. Sources added that BJP allies like LJP's Ram Vilas Paswan will also be inducted and could be given Health or Agriculture.
