New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday said Sonia Gandhi will remain Congress President as she always takes up important issues.
In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, Jairam said, "Sonia Gandhi is our President."
There is some resistance within the Congress to Rahul Gandhi taking over as President.
Exuding confidence in Congress, Jairam said, "Leadership is not about one person, Congress believes in collective leadership. It will soon make a comeback."
Congress is struggling to remain relevant in national politics with score of zero in Delhi Assembly elections 2015 coming as a bolt from the blue for its dispirited and lackluster leadership. The complete white wash in the national capital where the party ruled for 15 years from 1998 to 2013 shows that the party is now almost an insignificant player.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the party for the first time in India's electoral history ended in double figures winning just 44 seats. The party has been facing electoral debacle since late 2013 when it was routed in Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
There has been no good news for the party in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir elections too with the Congress losing heavily in all the four states. The elections in the above four states were held in the later half of 2014.
