Hyderabad: A political battle has erupted in Telangana between the Congress and the ruling TRS government over who should get credit for the formation of Telangana.
A chapter titled "The movement for the formation of Telangana state" has been included in this year's social studies text book for Class 10. The 14-page chapter glorifies Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his party the Telangana Rashtra Samithi but there is no mention of the Congress party or any praise for its President Sonia Gandhi for pushing the legislation through Parliament.
Congress leader Shabbir Ali said, "No mention of the role of martyrs and students too."
The TRS government is standing by its decision saying the Congress ignored the Telangana campaign for decades.
TRS leader KT Rama Rao said, "We have to talk about betrayal of Congress from 1956, all suicides that have happened, struggles that have happened and all injustices that have happened is in Congress regime."
The Congress party is now planning to express its outrage on the streets if the textbook is not revised.
After bifurcation, Congress could not politically gain much in the state. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's padyatra in Telangana to help farmers was also seen as an attempt to revive the party in Telangana.
