TMC wins four RS seats, LF one in West Bengal
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "I am happy that four of our candidates have won. I congratulate them."

Kolkata: Four Trinamool Congress candidates and a Left Front nominee were elected in the election to five Rajya Sabha seats from West Bengal on Friday.

The victorious Trinamool Congress candidates are filmstar Mithun Chakraborty, painter Jogen Chowdhury and KD Singh and Ahmed Hasan. The Left Front winner is Ritabrata Banerjee, a student leader belonging to CPI(M).

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters in the assembly lobby "I am happy that four of our candidates have won. I congratulate them. They will work in the interest of the state as well as the country." There were six candidates in the fray for five seats. The Congress-backed Independent AS Malihabadi was defeated.
