New Delhi/Patna: An FIR has been filed against Congress leaders Jagadish Tytler and Anil Sharma in Patna for allegedly mentioning the caste of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and others in a list of party officer bearers.
Tytler, Congress general secretary in charge of Bihar, and Sharma, leader of the party’s Bihar unit, were booked under a law to prevent atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Tytler and Sharma have been under criticism for a Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee list, which had the names of 562 office bearers and the castes they belonged to. The list allegedly had Tytler’s signature.
Kumar, who was called a chamar by caste, should have not been on the list, as the Lok Sabha Speaker is considered to be non-partisan.
Tytler on Thursday said the list was the party’s “internal document” and leaked to the media. The Congress has announced it is probing how the list was prepared and leaked.
"There is no intent to bring any constitutional functionary and the Speaker to disrepute. How the document became public is a matter of inquiry," said party spokesman Manish Tewari on Wednesday.
