Dehradun: Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker GS Kunjwal on Saturday issued notice under anti-defection law to nine rebel Congress MLAs, who have joined hands with the BJP to oust the Harish Rawat government in the state.
The nine rebel Congress MLAs were given time till March 26 for their explanation. Sources said, the MLAs are not going to discontinue their support with the BJP and it is likely that their membership will be cancelled.
The rebel Congress MLAs - mostly those owing allegiance to former Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna - are Harak Singh Rawat, Amrita Rawat, Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, Shaila Rani Rawat, Pradip Batra, Subodh Uniyal, Shailendra Mohan Singhal and Umesh Sharma.
Recently, the Harish Rawat government in Uttarakhand plunged into political crisis after nine Congress MLAs revolted and extended their support to the BJP.
Reacting over the political crisis, the Chief Minister said, “The rebel Congress MLAs should have spoken to the Speaker or the Governor separately. We are giving time to them to accept their mistake and apologise to avoid any action.”
Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna reached Delhi and he said, "This government was involved in massive corruption and taking Uttarakhand to destruction.”
The Uttarakhand government landed in a political crisis after it got merely 32 votes in favour against the 36 required for the Finance Bill to be passed.
