New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday got former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to campaign for the Punjab election.

Vajpayee campaigned in former cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu's political wicket - Amritsar. This was Vajpayee's first election rally in Punjab ahead of the February 13 assembly polls.

Not allowing the rain Gods to play spoilsport, hundreds of umbrellas were distributed to those who had gathered for the rally, which was addressed by Vajpayee.

The umbrellas were apparently a last minute decision when leaders saw that the crowd was beginning to leave because of the heavy downpour.

According to party sources, over 1,000 umbrellas were distributed by the party leaders.

If the alliance manages to win the four Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in Amritsar, it will ensure a long innings in politics for Sidhu.
