The SC has released him on two weeks parole.

Pilibhit: Controversial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Varun Gandhi is expected to file his nomination papers to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Pilibhit on April 21.

He was released by the Supreme Court for two weeks on parole on Thursday.

Disclosing the date, district BJP president Yogendra Singh Gangwar said that the party leadership has asked the district unit to be prepared for the nomination of Varun on April 21.

Several senior leaders are likely to accompany Varun when he will go to file his nominations.

However, the BJP leadership was very careful not to do anything which could violate the model code of conduct in Pilibhit during the nomination process of Varun.

Earlier, the Election Commission had advised the BJP not to field Varun as the party candidate in the elections, which was rejected by the party.

Meanwhile, it will be a second Diwali for the people of Pilibhit on Thursday night when they will celebrate the release of BJP candidate Varun Gandhi on two weeks parole on the orders of the SC.

“People will lit candles outside their houses while crackers will be busted along with distribution of sweets to express their happiness on the release of the leader'', Gangwar said, though he maintained the entire celebrations would be organised by individuals and the party has nothing to do with it.

Varun was jailed under the NSA invoked by the UP government for his hate speech and instigating violence during his surrender at Pilibhit on March 28. Varun and the BJP were also served notices by the ECI over the issue.

Later, Varun was shifted to Etah jail in the first week of April from Pilibhit due to security reasons.
