Kolkata: The Election Commission has pasted a notice at the house of former CPM MP Anil Basu requesting him to collect a copy of the complaint and the CD from the DEO's office after they failed to hand him over the same.
"According to the commission's instruction DEO of Hooghly district sent a copy of the complaint and the CD to his office twice yesterday but as there was nobody to collect that couldn't be handed over to him," Chief Electoral officer Sunil Gupta told reporters in Kolkata on Tuesday.
"Without any other alternative the DEO plastered a notice at his home requesting him to collect the documents from the DEO office," Gupta added.
Basu asked for a copy of the complaint against him and the CD submitted to Election Commission by Trinamool Congress, where he is alleged to have used abusive words against Mamata Banerjee.
"He was supposed to give a reply by 5 pm Tuesday but as he has not yet collected the documents so a fresh date and time will be alloted," Gupta said.
On April 22, the former CPM MP, who had won the Arambagh the seat for the seventh time in a row in the past and recorded highest margin in the state in a Lok Sabha election, had hurled abuses against the TMC chief in the presence of senior local party leaders.
The Trinamool Congress had demanded stern action by the Election Commission against Basu.
