Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who made a surprise visit to AMRI Hospital on Tuesday morning, was greeted with angry protests from employees of the hospital fearing loss of jobs due to cancellation of licence after the fire tragedy.
Apparently taken aback by the behaviour of the staffers, the chief minister scoffed at them saying they do not have any regret even after the death of so many people.
Ninety-three patients died in the hospital fire on Friday.
"What can I do if their jobs are lost. It is the responsibility of the hospital administration," she said.
"I have come here to trace one patient and I have found," Banerjee said without elaborating.
Soon after she left, employees allegedly manhandled the waiting journalists both from the electronic and print media. Some of them were injured, the police said.
The employees also blocked the road after the chief minister left the hospital. The blockade was later removed by the police.
