Whistleblower in Vyapam scam claims threat to his family, demands CBI probe
Rai said, "There is a particular pattern that can be seen in all of the Vyapam deaths and this is giving rise to suspicions. "

Bhopal: Whistleblower Anand Rai, who blew off the lid of the high profile Vyapam scam in madhya Pradesh, claims that his family has been receiving threats and has demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Over 40 people have died in the case and at least 10 of them under mysterious circumstances.

Rai said, "There is a particular pattern that can be seen in all of the Vyapam deaths and this is giving rise to suspicions. Out of all 45 deaths, at least ten of them are suspicious. Akshay Singh's death is also suspicious."

Rai added, "Some deaths are caused by depression, some out of the fear of being arrested, and some deaths are also happening because a few people in power does not want the truth behind this scam to come out."

Rai, who has been demanding a CBI probe in the case, have filed a petition and the Supreme Court will take a decision in this regard on Tuesday.

Rai said, "In 2013, one Jagdish Sagareka called me and warned me that because of me excessive media coverage is happening and he also threatened to kill me. He called me again after four minutes and told me not to give the incoming call number to anybody. I gave the number to police and that is how he got arrested. Later Deepak Yadav also laid conspiracies to kill me. I have got several threats like this."

Rai also claimed that the state government wanted to silence the whistleblowers in this case. "The government suddenly transferred my wife and this clearly shows that the government want to silence the whistle blowers. My wife is a gynecologist, she was first suspended without a reason and yesterday she got to know that she has been transferred to Ujjain."

On Monday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said the probe by Special Investigation Team into Vyapam scam was being monitored by the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the government cannot direct the court to hand it over to CBI.

"SIT probe into the scam is on, and the government cannot direct the High Court or the Supreme Court on the issue," Singh said.

Asked why the state government was avoiding a CBI probe into the massive recruitment/admission scam, Singh said the High Court and the apex court had already rejected a PIL in this regard. "There is no point in handing over the ongoing probe to CBI at this juncture," he said.

"In case someone tries to influence the probe, or if any incident takes place that affects the investigation, then I am sure that the court will take cognisance.

"If the Supreme Court or the High Court feels that the probe is not perfect to the extent it should be, then it will give directions and the government will immediately accept it and hand over the matter to the CBI," Singh said.

He also pointed out that the current probe was being conducted by a High Court-appointed SIT, and was being monitored by the court.
