Actress Turned Politician Roja Visits Sankranti Celebration Organised By Her Foundation

Actress Sri Lata Reddy, popularly known as Roja, is now an active politician. The actress, who gained fame for her roles in some of the most popular films of the 1990s, currently serves as a Cabinet Minister in Andhra Pradesh. The actress has worked with some big names of the south industry like Chiranjeevi and Rajinikanth.

Having received immense love from the audience during her acting career, Roja later transitioned into politics after marrying RK Selvamani in 2002. Currently serving as the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Youth Advancement of Andhra Pradesh, Roja continues to make headlines, particularly for her social work.

The Roja Foundation, a charity organisation run by the minister, is known for its events during the celebration of Makar Sankranti.

According to reports, Roja Foundation organised various competitions and events in Nagari to mark the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Roja, along with her husband RK Selvamani, actively participated in these events. One notable activity was the inclusion of ‘kili josiyam,’ where a parrot, functioning as a fortune teller, steps on cards, and the fortune teller interprets their meaning. Roja and her husband also took part in this traditional practice.

The Kili josiyam revealed predictions suggesting that Roja will continue to wield influence, with favourable fortune expected in the days ahead. A video capturing this moment has gone viral on social media, showing Roja standing beside Selvamani, surrounded by onlookers, while the parrot and fortune teller engage in their symbolic practice of divination.

Roja started her Telugu film journey with the 1991 film Prema Tapassu and gained recognition through Sarpayagam, where she portrayed Sobhan Babu’s daughter. Her breakthrough performance came with the Nandamuri Balakrishna-starrer Bhairava Dweepam, propelling her to overnight stardom.

In politics, Roja contested on a YSRCP ticket in 2014 and secured victory in the Nagari constituency in Andhra Pradesh. Her political success continued in the 2019 elections, maintaining her position as MLA for the same area.

Roja’s journey from the silver screen to the political stage, coupled with her recent involvement in cultural and festive events, continues to captivate the public’s attention and interest.
