Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter Bhavatharini’s mortal remains have been brought back to Chennai. She passed away on January 25, 2024, due to cancer. Bhavatharini’s last rites will be held later today.
News agency ANI shared a video in which Bhavatharini’s mortal remains were seen being kept at her Chennai residence as family and friends gathered to pay her last respects.
Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter Bhavatharini breathed her last in Sri Lanka. As per a report by Hindustan Times, Bhavatharini travelled from India to Sri Lanka for cancer treatment. Despite undergoing Ayurvedic therapy for five months, her health did not improve, and sadly, she passed away at 5:20 PM on Thursday.

At the age of 47, she was a prominent figure in the film industry, contributing her voice to numerous popular songs in over 30 films. Her untimely death has sent shockwaves through the entire entertainment world.
Making her debut as a playback singer in the film “Rasayya,” Bhavatharini achieved recognition as the song from the movie became a massive hit. She continued to lend her voice to musical compositions created by her father and brothers, and she also collaborated with artists like Deva and Sirpi.
Earlier today, Ilaiyaraaja also remembered his late daughter and shared a throwback photo with her on social media. In the black and white picture, the music composer was seen showing something to his daughter in a book. In the caption of his emotional post, Ilaiyaraaja wrote “Dear daughter” in Tamil.
On Friday, Kamal Haasan also paid tribute to Bhavatharini and confessed he doesn’t know how to console his brother, Ilaiyaraaja. “My heart aches. I don’t know how to console my beloved brother Ilaiyaraaja. I will hold his hands through this. Bhavatharini’s death cannot be tolerated or accepted. Ilaiyaraaja shouldn’t give up dealing with this huge loss. My heartfelt condolences to Bhavatharini’s family,” the actor wrote in Tamil on X.
