We have seen two major gaming smartphone launched this March ? the Asus ROG Phone 5 and the Nubia Red Magic 6. Now, we have the third major gaming smartphone launch of this month ? the Black Shark 4 from Xiaomi. The Black Shark 4 series has been launched in China with the vanilla Black Shark 4 and Black Shark 4 Pro. The Black Shark 4 has done away with a lot of conventional gaming smartphone elements. Both the Black Shark 4 and Black Shark 4 Pro come with a 6.67-inch FHD+ hole-punch display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch response rate ? the highest response rate seen on any smartphone display. The vanilla edition of the Black Shark 4 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, while the Black Shark 4 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, the Americna chipmaker?s flagship offering. Both the smartphones also come with a 120W fast charging for their 4,500mAh batteries. The Black Shark 4 and Black Shark 4 Pro are claimed to charge the battery completely in just 15 minutes.
The Black Shark 4 has been priced at CNY 2,499 onwards (roughly Rs 27,800) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration, CNY 2,699 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB variant (roughly Rs 30,000), CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs 33,300). The top-spec variant of the Black Shark 4 with 12GB RAM + 256GB of storage has been priced at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs 36,700). The Black Shark 4 Pro, on the other hand, is priced at CNY 3,999 onwards for the base variant (roughly Rs 44,500), CNY 4,499 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB variant (roughly Rs 50,000), and CNY 5,299 for the top-spec 16GB RAM + 512GB RAM variant (roughly Rs 59,000). Both the smartphones come with triple rear cameras but with different specifications. The Black Shark 4 Pro comes with a 64-megapixel primary shooter, accompanied by an 8-megapixel secondary camera, and a 5-megapixel tertiary shooter. The Black Shark 4, on the other hand, comes with a 48-megapixel main camera, accompanied by the same 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel secondary and tertiary shooters. One of the most interesting feature on the Black Shark 4 series is the presence of physical shoulder triggers. The trigger buttons on the Black Shark 4 ?pop-out? when you want to play games, which makes them rise up and turn into physical buttons. These triggers can be mapped for other functions as well like quick access to personal information.
The major difference between the Black Shark 4 and the Black Shark 4 Pro, apart from the processors is in the design. The Black Shark 4 Pro comes with big ?X? patterns on the back, with LEDs that light up, while the vanilla version of the Black Shark 4 comes without the LED lights and has plain back panels for some configurations.
There is no word on the international availability or pricing of the Black Shark 4 series, but it is being said that the smartphone will cost more than its China price in regions outside of the country. Reports suggest that the Black Shark 4 will come as a rather affordable gaming smartphone.
