New Delhi: HTC introduced its HTC One M9 earlier this year at an event in Barcelona. The highlight of the flagship device was its 20 megapixel camera- a shift from the company’s focus on lesser megapixels and stronger sensors. However, a latest report has revealed that the much hyped camera in the HTC One M9 is infact worse than the iPhone 4s camera.
According to a report on Forbes, the HTC One M9’s camera failed in tests and imaging experts DxOMark declared it worse than the three-year-old iPhone 4s and Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphones.
A successor to the M8, the M9 boasted of a better camera with higher megapixel instead of the dual-sensor which was considered advantageous as it allowed users to re-focus the shots after taking them. The 20 megapixel camera put the M9 at par with other leading Android phones.
However, the supposedly better camera lacks stabilization, a crucial element that plays a huge role in the quality of images taken in poor light, allowing the phone to slow the shutter to allow in more light, while keeping the image free of shake and blur.
The imaging experts found that the HTC One M9 camera functioned great in good light and produced good colour detail and autofocus performing well. However, when it came to low-light conditions, the results are disappointing; from oversaturated colours and loss of sharpness. The device received a camera score of 69.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was rated the best at a score of 86, the Note 4 came close second at 83, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus took following positions with 82 points. The M9’s score is the same as the Amazon’s Fire Phone.
Interestingly, the M9 only beats the result of M8 that scored 68 when tested. With a price tag starting $600, the phone costs nearly twice with scant features. To sum up, the testers advice against buying the HTC One M9 simply for its hyped camera.
