Imagine you mistakenly open Edge browser on your PC and realise that all your Chrome tabs are showing on it. Yes, that’s exactly what some people have reported this week. Microsoft has reportedly taken tabs from Chrome without consent from the users even though they were using Chrome as the default browser.
Edge is Microsoft’s web browser that replaced the widely known Internet Explorer. New reports say that Edge copied Chrome tabs for some users after they updated to the latest Windows version and opened it on the Edge browser.
Incidents like these don’t help Microsoft’s cause, which is already lagging behind Chrome in the browser market, even though its browser is well equipped. Stealing tabs from one browser is a major red flag on its own, and doing so after a random update makes it even more worrying.
Multiple users here have talked about this privacy issue and we are certain that the company will look into the matter if not done it by the time of writing this piece. Microsoft doesn’t allow copying of tabs unless the user wants to import the tabs and other personal details from other browsers.
And let’s be honest, Edge is unlikely to be the default browser for very few users, which explains its current market standing. So, if you do install any new browser on your PC or mobile, make sure you don’t check mark on any shady feature, which could inadvertently allow the company to access your data and like in this case, import your tabs to another browser.
