With the Indian government's alleged ban on as many as 857 websites on grounds of morality and decency, the social media world is flooded with reactions against the move. From a Reddit India thread, the ban is being widely criticised all across the nation. Here is what some of the popular Indian personalities tweeted about the government's attempt at Internet censorship:
India's former minister for telecom, Milind Deora tweeted against the move, calling it as a step towards 'Talibanisation of India':
And the government takes one more step towards the Talibanization of India... https://t.co/SIHqBo0841— Milind Deora (@milinddeora) August 3, 2015
Ban idiots who think banning things is going to make a difference to Indian mentality.. #sooverthisgovt #NextBanIdea #sick #ashamed

Porn ban is anti-freedom, impractical, not enforceable. Politically not very smart too. avoidable. Let's not manage people's private lives. — Chetan Bhagat (@chetan_bhagat) August 3, 2015
Don't ban porn. Ban men ogling, leering, brushing past, groping, molesting, abusing, humiliating and raping women. Ban non-consent. Not sex.

#NextBanIdea: Olive Oil (too western, only Indian culture desi ghee allowed); funny TV shows (why laugh?); Cappuccino, pizza (not indian) — Chetan Bhagat (@chetan_bhagat) August 3, 2015
Stand up comedian Kenny Sebastian wants good roads than blocked websites:
I just want good roads more than blocked websites. #IndianGovernment #PornBan — Kenny Sebastian (@knowkenny) August 4, 2015
Director-producer Ram Gopal Verma has been giving one of the lengthiest reactions against the ban. We have included only a handful of them here:
To ban porn saying it will be seen by who shouldn't see it is like saying to stop traffic because there will be accidents— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) August 1, 2015
It's a proven fact by international surveys that instead of fuelling sexual crimes porn actually provides safer outlet for sexual repression
— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) August 1, 2015
Indians love porn and the proof is India currently ranked #5 in overall traffic online, with USA ranking at #1 — Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) August 3, 2015
So India bans porn. Will this decision lower the cases of sexual violence or increase it. I wonder. http://t.co/q4r3zQdbvY — Uday Chopra (@udaychopra) August 2, 2015
In response to Uday Chopra's #NextBan idea, actor Nargis Fakhri says she wants to ban pesticides on vegetables, and corruption:
@udaychopra I wud like to ban corruption #NextBan— Nargis (@NargisFakhri) August 3, 2015
Singer Vishal Dadlani had his own grievance against the #BanSarkaar:
Back in pre-internet times, pirated vcds, imported porno mags etc. did big business. #AchcheDin for them again! http://t.co/U16wNQCBVF — VISHAL DADLANI (@VishalDadlani) August 3, 2015
My problem with the #BanSarkaar is: Everyone knows bans immediately lead to illicit/pirated distribution. Piracy funds terror. Now? Bhakts? — VISHAL DADLANI (@VishalDadlani) August 3, 2015
