realme X2 Pro Master Edition - Inspired by Architecture, Built for Performance
An impressive quad-camera system, excellent performance, and master editions by Naoto Fukasawa at a great price - now that's hard to beat combination.

Ushering the new decade is a range of smartphones that are getting more difficult to differentiate. But some manufacturers are well ahead of the curve with amped-up versions of their flagship products.

realme X2 Pro is one such phone with a fresh offering launched at the end of November 2019. But come the New year and its already out with a couple of chic Master Editions in a one of a kind creative collaboration between the brand and renowned industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. Inspired by Red Brick and Concrete, these new avatars have very distinct styles that speak to very different kinds of people yet, house the same powerhouse phone underneath.

What's New?

We reviewed the Brick Red edition and right off the bat; the difference is visible. Aesthetics are everything with the crimson blood-like hue giving the phone a punchy, modern vibe. realme even created its own RP paint and combined it with a leading lacquered glass coating technology to give it that polished look but plush feel. The blood red is so stunning, it makes this phone stand out in a sea of staid black smartphones every time. If you’re worried about smudges and scratches, this new texturized back makes all the difference. A stylish signature right near the camera lens employs computer chip laser technology to produce a replica of Fukasawa's signature with 100% fidelity thus unobtrusively completing the realme branding.

Flagship Foundations

While the Master Editions are only available in the top-end specs of 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, switch it on, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Just like the X2 Pro, the Master edition is also among the few phones to offer a display with a 90 Hz refresh rate at this price point. A 6.5-inch super AMOLED, Full HD+, dewdrop display protected by Gorilla Glass makes rounds off an impressive package. A fast refresh rate makes scrolling noticeably smoother while the screen does a fantastic job of bringing colours and pictures alive. Little details really shine when your experiencing the phone first hand.

But wait, it also has an in-display fingerprint scanner! Fuelled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset both these editions have the same quad-camera configuration that is up there with some of the best in the market.

Remarkable, when you consider the four-lens set up that includes a 64MP f/1.8 main sensor with a 20x Hybrid zoom, an 8MP f/2.2 115-degree wide-angle lens, a portrait lens and a 13MP f/2.5 telephoto lens capable that is leagues ahead of its competitors. On the front sits a 16-megapixel selfie camera that makes quick snapshots of your #OOTD or your friends and family super easy.

Zen-like picture composition made possible by the portrait mode.

Just like the regular X2 Pro, this one too is powered by a 4,000 MaH battery which supports VOOC fast charging and comes with a 50W charger in the box – which will take you from 0 to 100 in battery charge terms in little more than half an hour. Talk about connectivity and the realme X2 Pro checks all the boxes with 4G, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and even NFC. A USB-C charging port brings the phone into the future while the 3.5 mm audio jack stays put in addition to two speakers supporting Dolby Atmos.

What you get with the realme X2 Pro is a phone that's also a gamer's delight. Our gaming sprees saw far less lag and more phone resources allocated to keeping the experience top-notch and unwavering from the 30fps max. We weren’t even bothered by messages or email notifications.

A cleanly designed OS with the promise of the latest Android to come makes for a promising proposition. With the current phone comes a sidebar for quick access to several features like messaging, screenshots etc. makes life easy and the Smart Assistant tab for all the info you need from directions and weather to your activity tracking. But perhaps one of the most convenient options to have is that the realme X2 Pro allows you to manually configure important and unimportant notifications right from the pull-down menu at the top.

The Final Word

Inspired by Naoto Fukasawa's unique design sensibilities, the realme X2 Pro is ideally suited for anyone looking to upgrade their budget smartphone to a sophisticated piece of machinery that won't leave you bankrupt. Plus, the powerful processor, delightfully smooth screen and outstanding camera are significant bonuses you can't ignore at the extremely pocket-friendly price of Rs 34,999. Overall, if you’re looking for a good looking device that can hold its own among some of the best, this is it.
