Now, Samsung’s mobile business chief has cleared the air around the confusion, saying that the smartphone maker will not discard the Galaxy Note series, but new models may not be released this year. According to a report in the Yonhap News Agency, Koh Dong-Jin, Samsung‘s head of IT & Mobile Communications business said that the Galaxy Note series will remain intact. “It can be a lot of pressure on us to release two flagship models supporting the S-Pen within a year, so the launch of new Galaxy Note series may not happen in the second half of this year,” Koh was quoted as saying that Samsung’s annual shareholder meeting in Suwon.
“Next year, the launch period of the Galaxy Note may be different than the past, but we are trying to continue the series. The Galaxy Note series is an important category for us,” Jin was quoted by Yonhap News Agency as saying during the annual shareholders meeting. Koh said that Samsung is working hard to avoid any operational disruptions caused by the shortage in supply of chips. “I cannot say we have solved this problem 100 percent at this moment.” “We could face issues in the second quarter, but everyone is working hard to solve the problem,” he said. Koh also talked about Samsung’s fodable smartphones during the shareholder meeting. He said that the production of foldables can not be on the same scale as normal bar-style smartphones, although the company is trying hard to expand the capacity. “”We have solved display issues to some extent, but there also needs to be growth in component sectors regarding the foldable smartphone,” he said.
Previously, it was reported that Samsung is planning to discontinue the Galaxy Note series due to a drop in demand for high-end smartphones amid the COVID-19 pandemic and to focus on the next-gen Galaxy Fold smartphones. The speculations over its departure became stronger after Samsung introduced SPen support on Galaxy S21 Ultra – a feature traditionally reserved for Galaxy Note phones and Samsung tablets.
