French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati has become an unexpected internet star for an awkward reason. During the Paris Olympics 2024, a video of his unfortunate mishap went viral, which shows him trying to qualify for the finals at Stade de France, by aiming to clear 5.70 meters. However, during his third attempt, it took a comical turn when he missed the height and accidentally hit the pole with his crotch before falling to the ground. The clip of his awkward moment quickly spread online, leaving viewers puzzled, while broadcasters didn’t know how to describe the incident.
Despite his effort, Ammirati ended the competition with a score of 5.60 meters, took the 12th position and couldn’t reach the final. It was later clarified that his failure to qualify was due to his knees touching the pole first, not his private parts. As videos of the mishap began circulating online, social media users couldn’t help but joke about the situation and the awkward moment when commentators were speechless about what happened.

Speaking about the unfortunate incident with the French Athletics Federation, Anthony Ammirati said, “It’s a big disappointment. I’m a bit gutted, because I didn’t miss anything on the third attempt at 5.70 m. What I did miss was a bit of jumping in training to fine-tune the settings. Just a technical session. I had to give up the last two, because after a small grade 1 in the adductor, I prioritised the race. I was 100% physically, but I was missing a bit of pole vault. The conditions were good. It’s the first time I’ve started a competition without any stress. As I was a total outsider, I only had one goal, to play with the public. I was almost there.”
Even though Ammirati didn’t make it to the finals, his mishap has opened unexpected doors for him. A TMZ report suggests that the vice president of an adult website called CamSoda reached out to him with a surprising offer. Daryn Parker offered $250,000 (approximately Rs 2 crore) to the Paris Olympics star to show himself on their platform.
Parker mentioned, “If it was up to me, I’d award you for what everyone else saw, your talent below the belt. As a lover of crotch centric activities, I’d love to offer you up to $250,000 in exchange for a 60-minute webcam show, in which you show off your goods, minus the crossbar, of course.”
Anthony Ammirati, who started his athletics journey at age 9 and took the pole vault at 12, made his debut in the sport at the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria.
