Following Basmati, the best rice list includes Arborio from Italy and Arroz Carolino das Lezírias Ribatejanas from Portugal.

Rice, a humble grain, has managed to capture the hearts and palates of people worldwide, becoming a culinary cornerstone in various cultures. This versatile staple not only forms the basis of countless meals but also plays a significant role in defining regional cuisines. There is long-grain rice in the United States, perfect for meals, and sushi rice in Japan, great for sushi rolls. Each type of rice brings its own special taste and works in different recipes. Recently, the Indian Basmati rice has earned the prestigious title of “Best Rice in the World” by TasteAtlas, a renowned food and travel guide.

“Basmati is the best rice in the world in 2023,” they wrote on Instagram. “Basmati is a long-grain rice variety that was originally grown and cultivated in India and Pakistan. The rice is characterised by its flavour and aroma, which is very nutty, floral, and slightly spicy. Once cooked, the grains remain individual and don’t stick to each other, which allows curry and similar stew and sauces to coat every grain. The longer the grain, the better the rice, and the best basmati grains have a slightly golden hue,” TasteAtlas added.

It is widely used in various delicious dishes, including biryani, fried rice, and pulav. Many Indian kitchens and restaurants love using Basmati for its unique taste. Some special recipes to try are Risotto, Kheer, Prawn Biryani, Coconut Rice, Lemon Rice etc.
