The time a person spends at their school is truly valuable. But among the memorable moments, some people also have phases they do not want to look back on. Most people tend to be introverts who have had days when they were bullied by their classmates or seniors. However, what if life brings you face-to-face with these bullies as adults. Recently, a 23-year-old Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the United Kingdom revealed how she dealt with her high school bullies who applied to work for her successful company. Her anecdote is an inspiration to deal with the world with kindness.
Vicky Owens, the founder of Socially Speaking Media, detailed the interesting incident that took place in her life in a Facebook post. She stated that this was one of those “full circle moments" of her life. In the video, the CEO explained that she put a job advertisement on LinkedIn earlier this year to recruit more staff for her organisation. This is when she got applications from the three girls with whom she had a history. She stated, “The company just started to get bigger and bigger, so I put out a hiring post, and three of the girls that were absolutely awful to me in high school applied for the job."
The CEO then detailed exactly what she had to face. Vicky revealed that the three made it difficult for her to survive school. One of the girls who had flung yoghurt all over her head in the canteen in year 10. She further recalled, “Another time I was out with some of my friends in Nando’s in year nine or year 10 and this girl walked past and flung ketchup across my face."
Vicky Owens believed she was an easy target at the time since she was shy, tall, and her appearance was not exactly according to the prevalent beauty standards. The CEO said her mental health suffered as a result of the bullying she faced at school. Moreover, it was aggravated since she had to deal with her parents’ divorce at the time.
The young CEO stated that it was indeed an ironic moment for her and that she was confused about whether to reply or simply decline their application. In the end, she decided to ignore the application and not stoop to their level. She stated, “The good that you put out does eventually come back to you even if it feels like it’s never going to."
Vicky Owens also somehow thanked her bullies for her success at present. She shared that her mental health was so bad that she could not work or have any income. This compelled her to start her own company. She also stated that her accomplishment demonstrates that people should not let their teenage years define them.
