Responding to reports of the leopard’s presence, the forest department has intensified surveillance in the region. According to Free Press Journal, the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 29, in Palaniappan Layout, Somayanur village.

The circulating video on social media captures a tranquil scene with a hen perched atop a wall. As the footage unfolds, a leopard approaches stealthily and notices the hen. With a sudden burst of speed, the leopard lunges towards the hen. But the bird narrowly escapes the attack by jumping to the other side of the wall. Despite the hen’s attempt to escape, the leopard ultimately secures its prey. The video concludes with the wild cat walking away, holding the hen in its mouth.

According to a report in The Hindu, a resident came across a wing at their home’s entrance, which led them to check the CCTV footage. After witnessing the shocking incident, they notified the officials.

V Thirumurugan, Coimbatore Forest Range Officer said, “This area frequently experiences visits from leopards. Occasionally, a melanistic leopard, commonly known as black panther, is seen, but these big cats are generally very shy, and there have been no instances of conflict with humans. Typically, a siren sounds when animal movement is detected. This time, due to maintenance work, we have been patrolling every night and urging residents to stay indoors at night.”

Since ANI shared the video on X, it has gone viral and garnered over 8 lakh views.
