Who doesn’t know about Old Delhi’s Sharbat-e-Mohabbat? Everyone who visits Delhi from all over the world must try this sherbet here. Do you know who was the first to introduce Sharbat-e-Mohabbat to Delhi, the craze for which continues to blow people’s minds even today? According to reports, Nawab Qureshi – who sells sherbet in Old Delhi’s Matia Mahal market – started making this sherbet in 2000. He said that he first learned this recipe while he was in Mumbai and then came back to Delhi and started it. In a recent media interaction, an elderly man named Amanullah Sahab shared that Nawab Qureshi had come to Delhi for the first time with Sharbat-e-Mohabbat.

While Nawab shared the recipe for Sharbat-e-Mohabbat, he shared that to make this sherbet, first of all, one has to cut the watermelon into small pieces. These pieces are then put in milk, to which sugar syrup and Rooh Afza are added, mixed with ice, and later served to the customers in a plastic glass. Talking about its price, he said one glass cost Rs 50.

Nawab’s style of giving Sharbat-e-Mohabbat by saying ‘Tapa-Tap’ made him go viral on social media. Even now, he makes people sip sherbet with his hands in the same way. Nawaz explained the significance of his Tapa-Tap dialogue, stating that Tapa-Tap is the Bengali term for devouring food. That’s why he makes his customers drink sherbet by saying this. The reason for serving Sherbet in this style is that it has made him unique and famous on social media.
