Shared a few months ago by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the clip showcases the officer, accompanied by a colleague, lending a supportive ear to the man in need of emotional support. Opening their post with a quote by novelist Ann Hood – “I have learned that there is more power in a good strong hug than in a thousand meaningful words" – the department highlighted the actions of deputies Thorne and Parisek.
Responding to a call about a parked vehicle by the roadside, the deputies found the man. Deputy Thorne learned from the man that he had pulled over during his commute to work, overwhelmed by emotions and in need of a break.
“He didn’t want to hurt himself. He was upset and had multiple stressful issues making him feel overwhelmed. Deputy Thorne asked what he could do to help, and Joe simply responded that he could use a hug. That was all. A hug. Deputy Thorne was more than happy to help a fellow human and gave Joe a good strong hug as Joe was able to release some emotional tears," the department explained.
The officers’ support didn’t end there. Deputy Thorne and Deputy Parisek sat down with Joe, exchanging stories, offering remedies, and providing encouragement. As their conversation moved ahead, laughter emerged, bringing a positive turn to the encounter. Towards the conclusion of the video, Deputy Thorne shared his contact information with Joe, offering ongoing support during challenging times, and concluding the interaction with another heartfelt hug.
