A 49-year-old jewellery thief named Yaorong Wan was apprehended in Manhattan last week. As per the New York Post, Wan is suspected of robbing swanky stores in Beverly Hills, Miami and South Korea. In another update to this case, Wan’s girlfriend has stepped forward and told the Daily Mail that Wan had tried to woo her with the stolen jewellery pieces as gifts. After his arrest, however, she has thrown away all the jewellery. The woman said that when she met Wan, he seemed nice and therefore, she accepted him as her partner. The woman said she was scared since he had been arrested.

The woman, whose name remains undisclosed, said she met Wan during her trip to Los Angeles in January. As per the woman, he lied about his identity and said his name was Wayne San. She was impressed with his demeanour and even agreed to his proposal to shift to a new house. The woman said he never paid the home’s rent but used to give her jewellery sets as gifts. She had no idea about where he used to purchase them from. Whenever she asked Wan about this topic, he lied and said he had purchased them.

The woman said she fell in love with Wan because he behaved well and cared for her. She had no idea that he would turn out to be a thief. She then revealed the products that he had stolen from the jewellery shops. She said Wan had robbed a watch worth $17,000 (Rs 14,18,909) from the London Jewellers. Not only this watch, he also stole a ring worth from company Tiffany & Co Rockefeller Center and another ring from the company Cartier in Hudson Yards, Manhattan.

Interpol has issued a red corner notice against Wan. Red Corner Notices are issued for fugitives wanted either for prosecution or to serve a sentence. A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement agencies globally to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. The New York City Police Department’s Major Case Squad tracked Wan to a Queens apartment building.
