AEW wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman, popularly known as MJF, has reportedly made a backflip after touting a move to the WWE for years. MJF has often referenced the ‘bidding war of 2024’ in his promos for years, constantly teasing a WWE run several times during his tenure with the AEW.

With the rumours of MJF’s contract expiring in January 2024, a move to the WWE seemed more likely than ever but nothing concrete could ever be reached in terms of the wrestler’s future. Now, some shocking reports from the Haus of Wrestling have emerged which suggest that the AEW World Champion has secretly re-signed a new contract with his current organisation.
The Haus of Wrestling have made claims that they heard about the re-signing of MJF to the AEW from sources within the WWE. It was also reported that there had been no talks whatsoever between MJF and the WWE. Rumours of him becoming a free agent were termed as ‘false narratives’ with the wrestler now being reportedly signed until 2027 by the AEW. One of the higher-up sources stated that there were “zero talks” between him and the WWE. “This is a completely in his head storyline,” one WWE source said, quoted by the Haus of Wrestling.

Whereas another source stated, “1000% I was told a while ago he is under a long-term deal, which is why they stopped pushing the 2024 stuff.” Haus of Wrestling also made claims that they have directly reached out to the AEW for comment regarding MJF’s current contact status but haven’t received any feedback yet. They would be providing an update if they were given a response by the entertainment wrestling organisation.
This weekend, MJF experienced a huge win in his career with the AEW. He successfully retained the ROH Tag Team Championships with an unexpected partner in Samoa Joe. The match took place at AEW Full Gear, where Joe stepped in to replace the injured Adam Cole. After the match was over, MJF was subject to a brutal beatdown at the hands of The Gunns. The wrestler had to be transported out of the arena in an ambulance which displayed the distress that he was in.
This led to the main event of the show being altered with the already-injured Adam Cole defending Friedman’s title in his place. However, MJF shocked wrestling fans after making a last-minute return to the arena just before the match began. He eventually beat Jay White, successfully defending his championship in the main event. This victory has now further solidified MJF as a prominent figure in the AEW.
