The man, who claims his miniature trophy is crafted from 22-carat gold, desires to present it to the Indian team captain, Rohit Sharma.

Cricket World Cup 2023 has begun, and all eyes are on the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan scheduled for Saturday, October 14, in Ahmedabad. While cricket enthusiasts display their love for the sport in various ways, one man in Ahmedabad stands out. Rauf Sheikh, a jeweller from Jamalpur, has crafted a miniature gold World Cup trophy for the third time, weighing just 0.9 grams and standing around one and a half centimetres tall. Sheikh claims this unique trophy is made of 22-carat gold, and his wish is to present it to the Indian team captain, Rohit Sharma.

In a conversation with ANI, Sheikh said, “In 2014, I made a World Cup trophy weighing 1.200 grams and in 2019, I broke my own record by making a 1-gram trophy. Now in 2023, I have made a trophy weighing 0.900 grams…If I get a chance during the upcoming India-Pakistan match, I will give this trophy to Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma.”

Meanwhile, Rauf Sheikh harbours a dream of creating the world’s lightest gold World Cup trophy and earning a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. In 2019, he narrowly missed setting the record when he crafted a trophy weighing 1 gram. Crafting this miniature masterpiece took him approximately two months to complete. He dedicated almost 1-2 hours daily to the intricate work. Sheikh aspires to present this one-of-a-kind trophy to Rohit Sharma at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium during the India vs. Pakistan match on October 14 or after the final match scheduled for November 19.

The Cricket World Cup 2023 trophy made a stop at the iconic Statue of Unity Gujarat, ahead of the tournament. “The World Cup trophy made a stop at the iconic Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar as part of its global tour, showcasing its journey through 18 countries, including a ground-breaking trip to space,” the authority said in a press release.

Ahead of the highly awaited India vs Pakistan cricket match at Narendra Modi Stadium, cricket fans have started arriving in the capital city. Interestingly, the city’s metro authority has extended train timings by three hours, to ensure that all fans can conveniently return home after the match ends.

The match will be even more electrifying as Bollywood singers, Arijit Singh, Shankar Mahadevan and Sukhwinder Singh, are expected to deliver thrilling performances before the game begins.

Apart from the passionate cricket fans, the Golden Ticket holders, including two Indian cinema superstars, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, as well as the legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, will be part of the crowd.
