Chennai: Seeking to spread its presence, US car maker Ford today launched 45 dealer outlets of its Indian subsidiary across 35 cities in the country.
"We will continue our growth commitment in India with the launching new outlets every 10 days," Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham said inaugurating one of new outlets here.
Ford has planned to introduce eight new models by the middle of this decade. Two of the eight products - Ford Figo and Ford Ecosport - have already been introduced.
"Exactly, two years back, on February 16, we opened 26 dealerships on a single day. Today,we are inaugurating 45 new outlets. This is on the success of our (hatchback) Ford Figo and we will continue to open new outlets every 10days. That shows the commitment of Ford in India", Boneham said.
He said 40 per cent of the outlets were in tier II and III cities.
With the opening up of outlets today, Ford currently has 230 outlets across 123 cities.
On the new SUV Ecosport, whose soft launch was made at the Auto Expo in Delhi in January, he said the response to it was 'overwhelming'.
"Ecosport will be a great urban SUV. We are aggressively putting our plans together to launch the start (of commercial production) process", he said.
He also said Ford India's Gujarat plant, its second in the country, was 'on track' and 'very happy with the progress there'. The company's first plant is located in Chennai.
