With the commencement of commercial services on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Green Line-2, there has been a surge in commuters utilising this route.
It has quickly become one of the busiest Kolkata metro networks offering a convenient link from Howrah station to the city center.
At Esplanade station, passengers can seamlessly transfer between the Green Line Corridor and the Blue Line Corridor, providing access to destinations such as Dakshineswar or Kavi Subhash.
To enhance passenger convenience, Kolkata Metro Authorities have installed a new gate in the underground subway connecting these two corridors, as reported by TOI.
The installation of a 12-foot gate is set to significantly ease passenger movement between the Blue Line and Green Line corridors, particularly during peak hours. As the junction of the Blue Line and Green Line, Esplanade metro station has witnessed a sharp rise in passenger traffic since the launch of services between Esplanade and Howrah.
Previously, a 9-foot-wide passage required queue managers to separate inward and outward passengers in both corridors. With the new gate, this passage will now exclusively facilitate inward movement from the Green Line to the Blue Line, streamlining the commuting experience for travellers.
In order to ensure free and smooth movements of the travellers, the metro authorities have installed posters, stickers and banners that will guide people to reach the destination of their platforms.
Apart from that, metro staff will also be there to assist people in their travels. The metro authorities have also put up special indicative footprints in blue and green at the old Esplanade Metro station as well as the new Esplanade 6 Metro station. Following the green footprints, passengers who get down at the Old Esplanade station can easily reach the New Esplanade platform.
The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section is a groundbreaking addition to the metro networks as it is the first transportation tunnel under any river in India.
