The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been one of the best-selling cars in the country by the German automaker. Now, the car has made a comeback yet again in a new avatar, which is longer in terms of length than before thanks to the extended wheelbase, and has been launched at a price of Rs 56.15 lakh for E200 variant and Rs 69.47 lakh for the E350d variant (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
At first look, you will be forgiven to think of it as the current generation E-Class which does not have an extended wheelbase as the car does not get major cosmetic upgrades on the exteriors. Look closely and you will notice the neatly placed rear quarter glass in the c-pillar and it is when you look at the side profile of the car, that you realise just how extended the footprint of the vehicle has now become.
How much extended is the extended wheelbase model, you ask? The answer, put simply, is that the car now stands at over 5-metres in length. The advantage of this increase in wheelbase, which in turn increases the overall length of the E-Class, is directly served to the rear seat passengers. Rightly so, because many owners of the E-Class sedans sold in India are often driven around by chauffeurs.
The rear seat passengers get massive amount of leg-space, so much so, that the company could fit in recliner seats at the back. Yes, you heard that right.
But given that it is longer than before, does it manage to drive as good as the 'regular sized' E-Class? Or is there more to it than what meets the eye?
