Aadhaar has become a crucial proof of identification across the country over the years. Aadhaar cards are currently allotted in two separate sections to cover a diverse population. The first category is for adults, who are issued the regular Aadhaar card. The second category is created for children under the age of five and is known as Baal Aadhaar or the Blue Aadhaar Card. Moreover, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has stated that different forms for Aadhaar enrolment and upgradation will be used for adult residents over the age of 18, and for children in the 0-5 and 5-18 age groups.

Upgrading your child’s Baal Aadhaar card biometrics is free of cost. The biometrics data, such as fingerprints, iris scans, and photos, can be updated for free once between the ages of 5 and 7 years, and between the ages of 15 and 17 years. If they do not fall within these age groups, the individual will have to pay a fee of Rs 100.

The Baal Aadhaar needs to be updated once the child is 5 years old or older, as biometrics data were not collected before that as per UIDAI norms. Furthermore, demographic updates include changes to an enrolled member’s name, gender, date of birth, address, cell phone number, or email address, or any combination of these. If done at the same time as a biometric update, it is free. If done separately, Rs 50 will be charged.

How to apply for a Baal Aadhaar card?

To get a Baal Aadhaar card for your child, follow these steps:

  • Parents or guardians must accompany their child to the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre and present their own Aadhaar card.
  • Fill out the Aadhaar enrolment form and attach the child’s birth certificate.Provide their own Aadhaar number, which will be connected to your child’s Aadhaar number.
  • The child’s photograph will be taken at the enrolment centre.Once the enrollment is complete, the card will be delivered to the registered address.
  • The baal Aadhaar Card has the child’s Aadhaar number, demographics, and a QR code. It is a valid proof of identification and residence for a variety of purposes, including school admission, passport application and bank account opening. Additionally, it allows children to benefit from government schemes and services.
