Nikesh Arora is stepping down as president and chief operating officer of Japan's Softbank, the company said on Tuesday.
Arora, who took over as president and COO of the telecom giant in May 2015, was seen as a potential successor to billionaire CEO Masayoshi Son.
Here's a lowdown on his career:
Arora holds an MS degree from Boston College and an MBA from Northeastern University, both of which were awarded with distinction. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. In 1989, he graduated from the Institute of Technology in Varanasi, India with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Before joining SoftBank, Arora was a longtime executive at Google Inc., where he oversaw all revenue and customer operations at the internet giant, as well as marketing and partnerships.
At Google, he also served in several other roles, including the development and management of its operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to that, Arora was chief marketing officer at T-Mobile Europe.
