Mumbai: After highly intra day volatile trade markets ended in green as bank and IT stocks surged.
The Sensex closed up 64.98 points at 13,137.49, and the Nifty was up 19.10 points at 3796.4.
About 1443 shares have advanced, 1002 shares declined, and 81 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index was up 1.04 per cent or 56.98 points at 13,133.90.
The BSE Small Cap Index was up 0.63 per cent or 40.95 points at 5,554.16.
Satyam, Reliance Comm, ICICI Bank and ONGC were the top gainers on the Sensex.
Maruti Udyog, Hindalco, Grasim and HDFC were the top losers.
The BSE Auto Index was up 0.94 per cent or 49.60 points at 5,304.84. M&M, Amtek Auto, Cummins, MICO, Exide Industries gained.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.05 per cent or 68.09 points at 6,556.13. Allahabad Bank, Oriental Bank, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda and ICICI Bank flared up.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.21 per cent or 18.02 points at 8,694.17. Thermax, ABB, HEG, Bharat Elec, Greaves Cotton and SKF India gained.
The BSE FMCG Index gained 0.95 per cent or 19.53 points at 2,071.66. McDowell, Shaw Wallace, HLL, ITC and Tata Tea was up.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.77 per cent or 28.56 points at 3,735.59. Glenmark, Apollo Hospital, Sterling Bio, Sun Pharma and Pfizer moved up.
The BSE IT Index was up 1.12 per cent or 53.91points at 4,859.63. HCL Info, Mphasis BFL, Satyam, Patni Computer surged.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index was up 0.67 per cent or 41.15 points at 6182.21. ONGC, Chennai Petro, GAIL and Reliance firmed.
However, the BSE Metal Index ended flat 0.19 per cent at 9143.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7825.5 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 26543.48 crore.
The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4212.13 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 38581.11 crore.
