The ICC have released their Test Team of the Year for 2023. The list only features two Indians while the majority is dominated by the current World Test Championship winners Australia.
Australian skipper, Pat Cummins leads the side after his stellar campaign in whites to lead the Australians to their maiden WTC title after defeating India. He also managed to secure the urn by levelling the series against England to retain the Ashes, with notable performances coming in the Leeds Test where he took a fifer. He managed to close the year with a phenomenal display of bowling in the Boxing Day Test vs Pakistan where he took a fifer in each innings to cap out what has been a dominant year for the Aussie skipper.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are the only two Indians to feature in the list from India. Jadeja has been consistent with both bat and ball for India in the red-ball format, which took the side to the World Test Championship finals in 2023. He was a crucial part of India’s home series victory over Australia and their victory away at the Caribbean as well.
Ravichandran Ashwin on the other hand was a force to be reckoned with under the home conditions against Australia where he finished with 25 wickets in the four-match series at home. Despite not being a starter in the WTC finals against Australia, he proved his worth once again with a 10-wicket haul against the West Indies on his return and a fifty later on in the series.

The opening pair is the Aussie Usman Khawaja and Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne, following them you have the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson followed by England’s Joe Root. Travis Head also features in the side along with wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey. Among the bowlers, you have the recently retired Stuart Broad along with Mitchell Starc as well to partner with Pat Cummins and Ravi Ashwin. Ravindra Jadeja is the lone all-rounder in the side.
