Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj led the way for the men in blue as team India bundled out the South African batting order for a paltry score of 55 runs in the first innings of the second Test between the sides at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.
Siraj spearheaded the Indian bowling unit as he picked up 6 wickets to wrap up the SA innings before Lunch on the opening day of the second Test.
South African skipper Dean Elgar won the toss and opted to have a bat first as India struck gold early with the ball.
Opener Aiden Markram was the first to go as Siraj dismissed the Proteas batter for a cheap 2 runs off 10 deliveries. Siraj went on to decimate the top order of the Proteas’ batting order as he castled Elgar for just 4 runs, before sending Tony de Zorzi back to the hut for 2 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah joined in on the action as he got rid of Tristian Stubbs for his first wicket of the game as skipper Rohit Sharma held on to the catching opportunity handed to him by the SA batsman.
Siraj was in menacing form as he ripped through the hosts in breakneck fashion.
Siraj continued his onslaught at the other end as he wreaked havoc in the SA middle order with his dismissal of David Bedingham, Kyle Verreyne and Marco Jansen for 12, 15 and a duck respectively.
Pacer Mukesh Kumar chipped in with two wickets of his own as he sent tail-enders Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada back to the pavilion for 3 runs and 5 runs before Bumrah wrapped up the Protea innings in just 23.2 overs as he scalped Nandre Burger for a cheap 4 runs to bundle out the hosts for just 55 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal played an active role in the field as he held on to three catches, while KL Rahul came up with a couple of catches behind the wicket.
India will look to capitalise on the spectacular start provided by the pace unit as they go in search of a victory to level the two-match Test series in South Africa.
