The hosts ended up sealing a 27-run win that carried them into the eliminator of the event slated to be held on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Kohli opened the innings alongside captain Faf du Plessis and got the home team’s innings off to an electric start as te pair put up 31 runs before rain halted play briefly.

The game resumed in a while without any overs being lost and the RCB openers piled on more runs to put up a 78-run stand for the first wicket before Kohli was scalped for 47 by Mitchell Santner.

South African du Plessis went on to make a half-century before Kiwi Santner ran the Protea batter out. However, Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green played brilliant knocks as the former made 41 runs before falling to Shardul Thakur.

Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with 14 and 16 runs respectively as Green remained unbeaten on 38 to close out the innings.

Chennai got off to a horrendous start losing skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad on the first ball of the chase before losing wickets in regular intervals. Rachin Ravindra top scored with 61 runs and Ravindra Jadeja added an unbeaten 42, but their efforts were in vain as RCB limited the visitors to 191 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs to move into the playoffs.
