Siraj, who has 89 caps for India and also lifted the T20 World Cup trophy earlier this year, was awarded the honour by the Telangana government.

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj’s excellence on the field has reaped recognition off it as well, as the pacer officially took charge as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) after reporting to the Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana on Friday.

Siraj, who has 89 caps for India and also lifted the T20 World Cup trophy earlier this year, was awarded the honour by the Telangana government.

The Indian pacer is not the only athlete to receive the honour, as in July, the Telangana govt. announced Group-1 jobs for the cricketer as well as two-time world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen in appreciation of their outstanding performance in their respective sports.

Siraj will maintain his commitment to the Indian Cricket team moving forward as well.

After the announcement from State Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the state government went on to amend the Telangana (Regulation of appointments to public services and rationalisation of staff pattern and pay structure) Act, 1994 to facilitate the appointments.

Siraj was last seen in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, where he played in both the Tests and picked up 4 wickets to help India sweep the visitors clean for a whitewash win.

In the T20I series between India and Bangladesh, Sirah has taken a step back and has been rested, whilst young guns such as the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav have taken over the mantle.
