Young Indonesian off-spinner Rohmalia Rohmalia recorded the best T20I bowling figures in women’s cricket on Wednesday. Playing against Mongolia in the fifth T20I game of the series, the off-spinner scalped seven wickets while conceding zero runs.

The match took place in Bali on April 25. The fact that Rohmalia also made her international debut in the same game makes her achievement even more impressive. The previous record for the best bowling T20I bowling figures in women’s cricket was held by Frederique Overdijk who dismissed seven against France while conceding three runs.

That match was held three years ago in the T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifiers. Rohmalia’s recent haul has made her only the third women’s bowler to take a seven-wicket haul in T20Is, joining the likes of Overdijk and Argentine bowler Alison Stocks.

Rohmalia Rohmalia’s haul against Mongolia on her debut saw the off-spinner accumulate three major records. Apart from the best bowling analyses in an innings, the Indonesian spinner now also holds the record for the best economy rate and the finest figures on debut.

Best bowling figures in women’s T20Is

The fifth T20I game between Indonesia and Mongolia was hosted at the Udayana Cricket Ground. Indonesia had already secured the series with four straight victories ahead of the set fixture. The fifth match saw Indonesian women bat first after the toss. Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini ensured that her team enjoyed a good start as she smashed 61 runs in 44 balls. Her innings saw the opener belt six boundaries and one six.

However, the game’s momentum shifted quickly after both I Gusti Pratiwi and Tri Juniarti Penu Weo were dismissed in the fifth over. Rohmalia also contributed with the bat in half, smashing 13 runs in 15 deliveries. Another 13-run knock from Ni Murtiari helped Indonesia put up 151/5.

The second innings witnessed history unfold as Rohmalia dismissed Tsendsuren Ariuntsetseg, Odzaya Erdenebaatar, Jargalsaikhan Erdenesuvd, Gansuk Anujin, Battsetseg Namuunzul, Battsogt Narangerel and Mendbayaar Enkhzul. Five of these batters were dismissed at ducks, curbing any chances for a victory. The best knock in the second half was put up by the Mongolian skipper Ariuntsetseg who added a mere 7 runs in 22 balls. This led to a dominant 127-run victory for India and a fifth straight triumph overall.

As for the final game of the series, the Indonesian squad beat Mongolia by 10 wickets to whitewash the side 6-0. Rohmalia Rohmalia was unable to find any success on this occasion, despite bowling three overs in the game.
