BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead India in the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA. Addressing an event at Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium, Shah said India may not have won the 50-over World Cup at home last year but the team would definitely return victorious from the upcoming ICC showpiece event in the West under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
“Rohit was captaining (in the past and in other formats) and he came back for the Afghanistan series after a year, which means we were going to let him continue forward,” said Shah.

Hardik Pandya to be named as vice-captain
Jay Shah also said Pandya continues to be in the leadership group and will be Rohit’s deputy.
“Hardik Pandya will definitely be the vice-captain. When Hardik was injured in the World Cup, who else can we give the captaincy? In the third T20I against Afghanistan, India were 22/4 and the way Rohit Sharma took the team to 212/4, we can’t question much about him, right? He has the ability, as I said, we won ten games in the ODI World Cup. We didn’t win the final, but it’s part and parcel of the game. Whoever plays better, wins,” said Shah.
Dravid to remain India’s head coach till T20 World Cup
The BCCI secretary further confirmed that Rahul Dravid will continue to remain in the position of India’s head coach till the upcoming T20 World Cup in June this year.
“After the (2023) World Cup, Rahul bhai had to leave for the South Africa tour immediately. We did not get to meet in between which finally happened today,” Shah said here on the sidelines of the renaming function of the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Wednesday night.
“Why are you worried about a contract for such a senior person like Rahul Dravid? Rahul bhai will remain the coach in the T20 World Cup,” Shah asserted.
