'Will Need to Make Some Adjustments': Sanjay Manjrekar Highlights Team India's 'Weakness' in T20 World Cup
Former Indian cricketer Manjrekar touched up on the thin all-rounders contingent for the men in blue ahead of their ICC T20 World Cup assignment in the USA and West Indies.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is right around the corner and Team India will look to put an end to the 11-year title drought as they look to begin their campaign in the USA and West Indies against Ireland on the 5th of June.

The team selection process came under some scrutiny as the side seems to be thin on the all-rounders front and former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar touched up on the same during an exclusive on Star Sports Press Room.

He took the example of the Australian side, who have the option of multiple all-rounders, who can contribute with the bat in one innings and with the ball during the other.

“A lack of all-rounders is a bit of a weakness for Team India,” Manjrekar began.

“If you look at Australia, their batters like Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green can bowl four overs in a match,” he added.

India have the services of Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel available to them, in addition to the availability of Shivam Dube, who can put in a shift with the leather too.

“I think that’s why the Indian team has brought Shivam Dube into the side to mitigate the limitations that come with a lack of all-rounders,” Manjrekar opined.

“Yes, it’s a small weakness, and now with the impact substitute rule in the IPL, this problem might increase,” he added.

He spoke about India’s reliance on specialist batters and bowlers and added that two-dimensional contributions from those with the ability will go a long way in the nation’s thrust for a long-awaited ICC trophy.

“We currently rely on specialist bowlers and batters, but in this World Cup, the team will need to make some adjustments, and someone will have to bowl at least two to three overs in a match,” the former Indian player stated.
