A boy named Gagan from the Atrauli, Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh is in the headlines after he managed to crack the entrance exam for the prestigious IIT (Indian Institute of Technology). Gagan has talked about it in an interview with the online ed-tech platform Physics Wallah’s founder Alakh Pandey. The Aligarh native revealed that his father was employed as a godown keeper at a gas agency. Gagan and his elder brother worked alongside their father to support him, lifting 250 gas cylinders for a daily wage of Rs 350. He had started working from class 11th and studied online. Despite the enormous burden of these responsibilities, the Aligarh native remained concentrated on his dream of getting into IIT, one of the premier institutes of India. To crack India’s toughest exams, Gagan took a year off to focus on her preparation. Due to his dedication and hard work, he accomplished an excellent score of All India Rank 5286 in JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Advanced 2024.
Hailing from a family of 6, Gagan worked a lot of overtime at work and used his smartphone to continue his online education after work. He was successful in getting admission to Electrical and Communication Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) with determination. Speaking exclusively to India.com, Gagan shared that education was not a priority in his community. According to him, many children younger than him had to work to support their families. Despite these hardships, he managed to secure a place at IIT, emphasising the relevance of perseverance and dedication.
The Aligarh relied on the Physics Wallah’s online classes in his academic journey, steadily improving his marks throughout high school. He received immense help from Physics Wallah’s Arjuna batch for class 11th and Lakshay batch for class 12th. These batches are famous for preparing school students for the entrance. Through relentless work and determination, Gagan qualified twice for JEE Mains, but his ultimate objective was to crack JEE Advanced and secure a spot in an IIT. Alakh Pandey offered Gagan a scholarship worth Rs 4 lakhs. Also, additionally, recognising the determination of both Gagan and his elder brother, Mr Pandey extended employment opportunities at Physics Wallah.
