Did you know that you can apply for a nursing course right after clearing your Class 12 board exams? Students who have completed their Class 12 board exams from the Arts stream have the option to apply for various fields like the hospitality industry, media, mass communication, teaching, flying attendant, air hostess, and many more. They can also study for Auxiliary Nursing Midwife (ANM) and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM). It is a general belief that one must have a background in science, but you do not necessarily need a science background to enrol in a nursing course or college.

Students who have passed their Class 12 exams can enrol in Auxiliary Nursing Midwife (ANM) and General Nursing Midwife (GNM) diploma courses. The Indian Nursing Council is the regulatory authority for nurses and nursing education in India.
What is the ANM course?
The Auxiliary Nursing Midwife (ANM) is a 2-year diploma course which comprises 6 months of internship (compulsory). The annual fees of the ANM course are between Rs 10,000 to Rs 60,000.
Eligibility Criteria for ANM course
The enrol in the ANM course, the student’s age should be 17 years on or before December 31 of the applying year. The maximum age set for the course is 35 years as per the ANM eligibility criteria. Apart from this, the education qualification required to enrol in this course is that students should have cleared their Class 12 boards in Arts with English subject. Those students who have cleared the 12th Class in Arts and Science, where the exam was conducted by the National Institute of Open School can also enrol here.
What is the GNM course?
General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is another diploma course which is of 3.5 years. A 6 month internship period is also included in the course. The fees for this course can range between Rs 20,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh.
Eligibility Criteria for GNM course
To seek admission to the GNM course, students must have cleared their class 12 with arts in English or any qualifying exam from a recognised board as per the GNM eligibility criteria. For this Diploma course, it is also necessary to obtain at least 40 per cent marks in English. Qualified candidates who have secured 40% marks in Vocational Stream-Health Care Science from CBSE Board/recognized can also enrol on this nursing course.
